Privacy policy

Toots & Trots is an independent project based in New Zealand. For anything about your privacy, email us at hello@tootsandtrots.co.nz.

Your personalisation profile. When you set sensitivities, diet filters or per-food adjustments, those are saved in your own browser (local storage). They are notsent to us and we can't see them. Clearing your browser data clears your profile.

Things you choose to send us. If you contact us, suggest a food, submit a recipe, or leave a review, we receive what you provide — for example your message, your name or email if you include them, and any rating or text. We use this to reply to you, action your suggestion, and improve the tool.

Basic technical data.Like almost every website, our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages requested) so we can run, secure and troubleshoot the service. We don't use this to build a profile of you.

Cookies & tracking.We aim to keep this minimal. We don't currently use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. If we add privacy-respecting analytics in future, we'll update this page first.

We don't sell your information, and we don't share it for advertising. We do use a small number of trusted service providers to run the site, who process data on our behalf:

• Hosting & delivery (Vercel) — serves the website and keeps the technical logs above.
• Database (Supabase) — stores things like food suggestions, submissions and reviews you send us.
• Email — to receive and reply to your messages.
• AI providers(such as Anthropic and OpenAI) — used to help us build and edit site content and recipe images. We don't send your personal messages to them unless we tell you so at the point you send them.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or the public.

Our providers may store and process data on servers outside New Zealand. We choose reputable providers and take reasonable steps to keep your information protected, but no online service can be completely secure.

We keep what you send us only as long as we need it for the purpose you sent it — for example, to reply to you or to consider a food suggestion — and then delete or anonymise it. Your in-browser profile stays until you clear it.

Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 you can ask us what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it. Because your personalisation lives in your browser, you can clear it yourself at any time. To make any other request, email hello@tootsandtrots.co.nz.

Toots & Trotsis intended for adults managing their own diet. It isn't aimed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from under-16s.

We may update this policy as the site grows. We'll change the “last updated” date above, and for significant changes we'll try to make it obvious on the site.
